Mibu Fischer

Marine Ethnoecologist - CSIRO

"I’m most proud of the fact that I am here, as a woman in a minority group and that I get to push the stereotypes of what a scientist is. Being here and being seen and vocal has an impact on other young Indigenous women."

Mibu enjoys spending time near the ocean, which most often involves walking her dog Bane. Her connection to the sea evolved into a career where Mibu works as a marine ethnoecologist. This role draws on her background as an Aboriginal woman, by understanding how to weave Indigenous and Western Sciences together and to increase leadership for Indigenous communities in the marine and coastal spaces.
